Pre-Surgical Testing RN PACU (Boulder Surgery Center)

Under the direct supervision of the Pacu Manager the PST RN performs a verbal assessment with the patient prior to admission via a phone interview as well as collects the patient's medical history.
The nurse works closely with the Medical Director in reviewing the patient's medical history.
Practice appropriate telephone patient triage skills while being aware of the need to balance quality care with efficient use of time and resources.
Performs verbal assessment with patient prior to admission via telephone.
Ensure pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished.
Assess pertinent information, look up test results (labs, cardiac records, etc) Has the ability to utilize email to review patient information with the Medical Director.
Communicate the Center's Rules and Regulations related to COVID as well as patient arrival time and NPO instructions.
Perform patient teaching and education, maintain and promote patient's safety by assessing physical and psychological needs, use effective communication techniques which adhere to common standards of courtesy, answer inquiries in a timely and helpful manner.
Print out all patient's medical history, consents, history and physical and MD orders, organize paperwork for each day, fax COVID orders and receive and review all COVID tests prior to day of surgery.
Demonstrate organizational skills to facilitate a smooth workflow, able to perform independently and be self-motivated.
Knowledgeable in surgical procedures, medications, anesthesia techniques in order to answer patient questions and give appropriate pre-operative instructions, demonstrates knowledge of the Centers policies, procedures and safety plans.
May be pulled for Pre-Op or PACU patient care.
Communicates effectively with all team members to share information and independently solve problems in a timely manner.
Attend mandatory all staff meetings, complete the required educational and safety programs.
Flexibility with schedules and time, respects the confidentiality of all patients.
Contributes to the goals of the Center and supports the Centers philosophies.
